Training of judges and prosecutors

The person who passed the admission exam is a candidate for the position of a judge or a prosecutor.

The training period for both the judges and prosecutors is of 18 months.
According to the NIJ Council Decision no.5 of 30.08.2007, candidates for the position of judge and prosecutor enrolled, employed when participating in the contest, submit original work books which are kept at NIJ during training. They receive a monthly scholarship worth 50% of the salary of the judge's function in court. Medical insurance may be purchased individually
Initial training for the position of judge or prosecutor is delivered according to the educational plan and the curriculum, approved by the NIJ Council, after coordination with the Superior Council of Magistracy and Prosecutor General’s Office.
Training takes place in 4 semesters:
  •    Semester I. Basic specialization and fundamental training.
  •    Semester II. Separated specialization of judges and prosecutors.
  •    Semester III. Practical internship.
  •    Semester IV. Applicative work
Initial training of candidates for the position of judge and prosecutor ends with graduation exams, consisting of theoretical and practical tests which help assess the knowledge level necessary for an in office judge and prosecutor.
Graduates, candidates the position of judge or prosecutor are obliged, based on the general average of certificates, to participate in the competition for filling the position of judge or prosecutor, in the manner prescribed by the Law on the Status of Judges, and the Law on the Prosecution, accordingly.
Graduates participating in the contest then choose, in descending order of general average obtained in graduation exams, from the available positions of judge or prosecutor accordingly.
Graduates who have won the contest for filling the positions of judge and prosecutor are required to participate for 3 years after graduating the Institute. As the term expires, the graduate can not enter the contest based on the general average shown in the certificate.
Should a graduate, due to unfounded reasons, not participate in the contest for filling the judge or prosecutor positions, the Institute Council may request the refund of the scholarship awarded during training.
