The National Institute of Justice was visited on Monday, May 22, 2023, by E. S. Cristian-Leon Țurcanu, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Romania to the Republic of Moldova to hold a public lesson in front of NIJ trainees. Before the event began, His Excellency had a meeting with the ad Interim Director of NIJ, Ecaterina Popa.
During the discussions, was underlined the cooperation relationship of the National Institute of Justice of the Republic of Moldova with the National Institute of Magistracy (NIM ) and the School of Clerks of Romania, which play a crucial role in ensuring solid training of legal professionals, able to properly apply European principles and values in the act of justice.
Also, was reiterated the gratitude for the realization of the project „Strengthening the justice system by organizing expertise transfer missions addressed to judges and prosecutors of the Republic of Moldova”, implemented by NIM and NIJ, with the support of the International Development Cooperation Agency (RoAid), under the coordination of the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The directions of cooperation of the project referred to the involvement of trainers, judges and prosecutors from the Republic of Moldova in the professional development activities organized by NIM, study visits to institutions within the Romanian judiciary, as well as inviting as experts NIMs trainers to train Moldovan magistrates. This collaboration will continue in 2023 with a series of activities that will strengthen the professional capacities of NIJ beneficiaries.
Likewise, the opportunity for His Excellency to offer an interview to the Journal of the National Institute of Justice was discussed.
The meeting was also attended by Radu Gruia, head of the Political Section within the Romanian Embassy in the Republic of Moldova, and from NIJ: Olga Marandici, head of the International Relations Section, and Gheorghe Budeanu, INJ trainer, responsible for the editorial process of NIJ Journal.
