International scientific-practical conference “Innovations in Professional Legal Education: Current Problems and New Opportunities”

On Tuesday, 17 May 2022, the international scientific-practical conference " Innovations in professional legal education: current problems and new opportunities " took place in Tashkent, in a hybrid format. The event was organized on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the founding of the Academy of General Prosecutors from Uzbekistan.

The purpose of the meeting, which brought together national and international experts in the area, was to facilitate a platform for discussion to provide common solutions for the development of legal education based on the needs and requirements of modern law enforcement practice.

Among the speakers invited to relate about the national experience was Ms. Ecaterina Popa, ad interim Director of the National Institute of Justice, focal point of the HELP Program of the Council of Europe, who shared the experience regarding training process for prosecutors, judges and other representatives of the justice sector in the Republic of Moldova on the four dimensions: initial training, continuing education, training of trainers and e-learning. In particular, she mentioned the electronic admission and mock trails as an innovative method of training future prosecutors and judges, as well as the adaptation to the internal legal system of electronic courses offered by the Council of Europe's HELP platform. Thus, in the period 2015-2022, the National Institute of Justice launched 18 HELP courses targeting various topics related to human rights, and being trained 2,340 beneficiaries.

A series of recommendations were developed by the end of the event, for strengthening professional legal education. The conference materials are expected to be summarized and presented through a report to be published.
