The NIJ Director discussed with the members of the Ad Hoc group of the Council of Europe

In the context of the Chisinau visit of the Ad Hoc expert group of the Council of Europe, the Director of the National Institute of Justice, Diana Scobioala, had a meeting with its members on Tuesday, January 21, 2020. The dialogue referred to the prospect of new legislative proposals on the justice reform, as well as on its successful implementation.

The NIJ Director and the CoE experts present at the meeting had an exchange of views on the problems that persist in the justice system and on the importance of identifying actions in order to achieve the reform objectives in the field.

Underlining each point separately, the NIJ Director referred to a series of changes made in the process of training future judges and prosecutors, as well as judges and prosecutors in office. At the same time, Diana Scobioala revealed the NIJ's vision on accessing the profession of judge or prosecutor, as well as solving the problem regarding the low employment rate of the candidates to the position of judge who have already graduated the Institute.

The Ad Hoc expert group of the Council of Europe, led by Christos Giakoumopoulos, the General Director of the Directorate General Human Rights and the Rule of Law, was established to support efforts in strengthening the justice sector in the Republic of Moldova.
