Courtesy visit of the head of the International Organization for Migration Mission in the Republic of Moldova to the National Institute of justice

On Friday, August 15, 2025, the Director of the National Institute of Justice, Ramona Strugariu, together with the Deputy Director of the NIJ, Ghennadi Epure, received in a courtesy visit the Head of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Mission in the Republic of Moldova, Ester Ruiz de Azua. The meeting was also attended by Ecaterina Popa, Head of the Training and Research Directorate, and Diana Donoaga-Certan, Program Coordinator at IOM.

During the meeting, discussions focused on cooperation in training programs for representatives of the judicial system in the Republic of Moldova. Both parties emphasized that the relationship between the NIJ and IOM has experienced dynamic development in recent years and highlighted the importance of continuing the established partnership.

The meeting agenda covered aspects regarding the organization of five training sessions over the course of a year, aimed both at NIJ beneficiaries and other categories of legal practitioners. Particular attention was given to the digitalization and piloting of online training platforms for courses dedicated to financial investigations and asset recovery, as well as combating human trafficking. Additionally, the need to develop new digital educational resources was addressed.

It is worth noting that the National Institute of Justice provides training for prosecutors and judges in combating human trafficking and related offenses, with a victim-centered approach, in line with the objectives of the National Strategy for the Prevention and Combating of Human Trafficking for 2024–2028.
