The trainees of the National Institute of Justice, candidates for the positions of judge and prosecutor of the 19th cohort, participated on Wednesday, 19 November 2025, in a public lecture entitled “The European Public Prosecutor’s Office: a new actor in the European Judicial System”, delivered by Ms. Dana Manuela Ana, European Delegated Prosecutor within the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO).
In their opening remarks, NIJ Director Ramona Strugariu and Deputy Director Ghennadi Epure emphasized the importance of dialogue with practitioners from European institutions. They also highlighted the relevance of such activities for understanding European mechanisms at a time when the Republic of Moldova is advancing on the path toward integration and strengthening its capacity to operate in line with the standards of the European Union’s judicial system.
During the presentation, Ms. Dana Manuela Ana explained the role and competences of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, the management of cross-border investigations, and the coordination between member states. Participants were introduced to the responsibilities of delegated prosecutors, the duration of their mandates, procedures for referral and authorization of investigations, as well as the main challenges facing the EPPO. The contribution of this institution to protecting the European Union’s financial interests was also underscored.
