During the visit to Brussels, the Kingdom of Belgium, on the occasion of the first meeting of the delegation of the Republic of Moldova with the European Commission, the ad interim Director of the National Institute of Justice, Ecaterina Popa, and the member of the Superior Council of Magistracy, Lucia Popescu, had a meeting with the representatives of the secretariat of the European Judicial Training Network (EJTN) of the magistracy schools from the member states of the European Union: Carmen Domuta, head of unit, and Daniel Graur, project manager.

The meeting took place on February 22, 2024 and served as an opportunity to discuss the importance of training legal professionals within the judicial training programs of EJTN, especially in the perspective of our country's accession to the European community.

The dialogue focused on the need to implement the European Judicial Training Strategy for the years 2021-2024, facilitating the trainees of the National Institute of Justice to follow professional development activities through AIAKOS programs and to compete in the annual THEMIS competitions. Also, the prospects of free participation of NIJ beneficiaries in the webinars delivered within the EJTN were discussed.

We mention that the National Institute of Justice has the status of observer-member of the European Judicial Training Network (EJTN) of the magistracy schools from the EU member states since July 1, 2016, once the he Association Agreement of the Republic of Moldova with the European Union is in force. Due to this fact, several professionals from the national legal sector participated in training sessions on various topics offered by EJTN, both, online and in person.

The visit to EJTN of the ad interim Director of the National Institute of Justice is part of the EU-CoE joint project „Support to the justice reform in the Republic of Moldova”.

EJTN brings together judicial training institutions from all EU member states with the aim of carrying out professional development activities for members of the European judicial system. EJTN develops training standards and programs, coordinates exchanges and judicial training sessions, disseminates training expertise and promotes cooperation between EU law schools.
