16. 12. 2025

Today, 16 December 2025, the National Institute of Justice launched the in-person training sessions of the Advocacy Training Programme. The programme is delivered over the course of three days and follows a preparatory phase that included online sessions held in November.

Organised by the National Institute of Justice in partnership with the British Embassy in the Republic of Moldova, the programme is an initiative of the Inns of Court College of Advocacy (ICCA) of the United Kingdom. It contributes to strengthening the rule of law by developing essential practical skills that support advocacy and representation in court at the highest professional standards.

The opening of the programme featured remarks by Sarah Clarke KC (King’s Counsel), judge, member of the Inner Temple in London and a nationally and internationally recognised advocacy trainer; Bob Easton, Deputy Head of Mission of the British Embassy in Chișinău; and Ramona Strugariu, Director of the National Institute of Justice.

The course is delivered by a distinguished team of trainers from the Inns of Court College of Advocacy, renowned experts in the field of advocacy, including: Grahame Aldous KC, Peter Birkett KC, Sarah Clarke KC, Kitty Colley, James Gray, Jaime Hamilton KC, Richard Honey KC, Peter Melleney, David Temkin KC and Iulia Stinga.

The programme is addressed to a group of specialised prosecutors from the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, the Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organised Crime and Special Cases, the Chișinău Municipal Prosecutor’s Office, as well as territorial prosecutor’s offices in the vicinity of the capital (Anenii Noi, Criuleni, Ialoveni and Strășeni).

The training places a strong emphasis on practical learning, covering fundamental techniques such as witness examination, examination-in-chief and cross-examination, as well as the preparation and delivery of advocacy speeches. It also addresses ethical issues arising in complex criminal cases and the management of challenges encountered in the courtroom. The sessions are based on the Hampel Method, a structured feedback approach designed to ensure continuous improvement, and include mock trials to provide participants with a realistic setting for practising and refining their newly acquired skills.
