The closing conference of the Council of Europe program „Promoting a human rights compliant criminal justice system in the Republic of Moldova”

Today, February 17, 2021, took place, in an online format, the closing conference of the Council of Europe program „Promoting a human rights compliant criminal justice system in the Republic of Moldova”, funded by the Government of Norway and part of the Action Plan of the Council of Europe for the Republic of Moldova, 2017-2020.

On behalf of the National Institute of Justice, the conference was attended by Ecaterina Popa, the Head of the Training and Research Department. In her speech, she specified the actions carried out under the program with an essential impact on the professional training of the NIJ beneficiaries. Therefore, during 2018-2020, there were multiple seminars, HELP distance learning courses, summer schools for trainers in the field of criminal justice, including the international conference dedicated to Article 5 of the European Convention on Human Rights "Right to liberty and to security”.

The CoE program also provided NIJ assistance in updating the publication “Table Index. Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights v. the Republic of Moldova, 13 December 2001-31 December 2018”, bilingual edition in Romanian and in English, which presents chronologically the decisions of the Court concerning our country, including the main identification criteria: ECHR article, field, case, keywords, extracts from decisions, appreciation/satisfaction.

During the event, the achievements of the program were presented also by other participants: experts of the Council of Europe, exponents of the national law system and beneficiaries of the program „Promoting a human rights compliant criminal justice system in the Republic of Moldova”.
