The HELP course "Justice in the Interest of the Child" was launched

A group of judges, prosecutors, representatives of the Department of the Governmental Agent of the Ministry of Justice and the People's Advocate Office, as well as students of the Law Faculty of the State University of Moldova participated in the launch of the HELP course of the Council of Europe (CoE) – “Justice in the interest of the child”.

The event, which took place on Friday, April 13, 2019, was chaired by the Head of the Council of Europe Office in Chisinau, William Massolin, and the Director of the National Institute of Justice, Diana Scobioala. "The distance learning course is innovative and remarkable due to the fact that the students of the Faculty of Law of the State University of Moldova have been involved in the process of specialized training of the legal system professionals, as well as by its simultaneous launch in Romania, where the course will be attended by the beneficiaries of the trainings held within the National Institute of Magistracy" mentioned the NIJ Director.

During the launch, CoE experts Ana Medarska-Lazova and Natasha Kravchuk presented the European Programme for Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals of the Council of Europe, the course on justice in the interest of the child, the fundamental principles of justice in the interest of the child, etc. The national tutors Violeta Cojocaru, the Dean of the Faculty of Law of the State University of Moldova, NIJ trainer, and Corina Voica, a seconded judge of the National Institute of Magistracy in Romania, as well as Maria Strulea, the national consultant in the field of human rights, have reported about the adaptation of the course to the context of the Republic of Moldova and the collaboration with the National Institute of Magistracy of Romania on this segment.

The e-learning program, with total duration of 40 academic hours, will be active from May to July 2019. It consists of nine modules and addresses several themes, such as: children's rights and justice in the interest of the child, the benefit of out-of-court procedures in solving cases involving minors, confidentiality issues in such cases, the main difficulties in interacting with children, particularities and challenges of the deprivation of liberty of children, the violence against children and relevant aspects of the specific rights of migrant children.

During the e-learning program, the participants will have knowledge assessment tests, scenarios and reflection exercises, presentations, and after passing a final test, they will be certified.

The event was organized by the European Programme for Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals in partnership with the National Institute of Justice of the Republic of Moldova within the framework of the Council of Europe Project on "Protecting children from sexual exploitation and sexual abuse in the Republic of Moldova".
