Meeting with the representatives of the National Center for State Courts Williamsburg Organization, Chisinau Branch

The ad interim director of the National Institute of Justice, Ecaterina Popa, met on Monday afternoon, June 26, 2023, with representatives of the National Center for State Courts Williamsburg, Chisinau Branch (NCSC Chisinau): Jennifer Franklin, teacher of writing and legal argumentation, William and Mary Law School; Jennifer Stevenson, teacher of writing and legal argumentation, St. Mary’s University, School of Law; Rachel Morley, J.D., Associate Program, NCSC Chisinau; Olimpia Gribincea, Director of NCSC Chisinau; Ina Jimbei, lawyer, expert in the field of legal education, NCSC Chisinau; and Iulia Rtisceva, finance manager, administration and procurement, NCSC Chisinau.

During the meeting, NCSC Chisinau delegations spoke about the piloting and impact of the course „Research, writing and legal argumentation” at some law schools in the country.

In her turn, Ecaterina Popa spoke about the experience of the National Institute of Justice for integrating the legal argument in the program of mock trials of the initial training. The ad interim Director also stressed that one of the priorities of the National Institute of Justice is to strengthen the capacities of legal professionals on legal reasoning. This involves paying more attention to the drafting and motivation of procedural acts both as an integral part of process simulations involving NIJ trainees and as a separate discipline for them.

The meeting was also attended by Olga Marandici, head of the International Relations Section, Cezara-Elena Polisca, head of the Didactic-methodical and Training of Trainers Section, and Ion Bocan, head of the Continuing Education Section of NIJ.
