The NIJ Director participated in the roundtable on biased crimes

The Director of the National Institute of Justice, Diana Scobioala, participated on Thursday, June 3, 2021, in the roundtable "Strengthening equality and non-discrimination through training for police officers, prosecutors and judges on biased crimes", organized within the regional project of the Council Europe and the European Union "Strengthening access to justice for victims of discrimination, hate crimes and hate speech in the Eastern Partnership countries".

The event was attended by William Massolin, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Chisinau, Corina Calugaru, Ambassador, Permanent Representation of the Republic of Moldova to the Council of Europe, Maria Daniella Marouda, President of the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (CERI), and representatives of national resort authorities.

In her speech, Diana Scobioala mentioned about the introduction in the initial and continuous training programmes of the trainings regarding to the crimes motivated by hatred, prejudice and hate speech, as well as about the intensification of the training activities of trainers in this field.

The round table was held online and aimed at collecting relevant information from national partners on two of the recommendations of the fifth CERI monitoring cycle for the Republic of Moldova - increasing trainings for law enforcement officials and the judiciary on hate crimes, including hate speech, and strengthening the institutional capacity of the Council for the prevention and elimination of discrimination and ensuring equality and the People's Advocate.
