NIJ was visited by representatives of the US Department of State and the US Embassy in Moldova

The development of institutional capacities and modernization of the training process for beneficiaries of the National Institute of Justice were discussed during the visit that took place on the afternoon of Friday 6 May 2022. The meeting was attended by Ecaterina Popa, Ad interim Director of the INJ, Rachael Beitler, INL Program Officer, US Department of State, representatives of the Criminal justice and law enforcement Section (INL) of the US Embassy in the Republic of Moldova – Kevin Lanigan, consultant in the field of justice and anti-corruption, and Anatolie Popa, program manager, and representatives of the NIJ - Cezara-Elena Polisca, advisor to the Director, head of the didactic-methodical section and training of trainers, and Ion Chirtoaca, NIJ trainer, judge.

The exchange of views between the two sides highlighted both the priorities and needs of the Institute and the progress achieved thanks to the substantial collaboration and support from the US Government. Thus, the discussions underlined the main actions taken, including the introduction of Mock trials as an innovative training method, the implementation of the e-admission system, e-testing and e-casefile, improved infrastructure and other ongoing activities.

Also, the visitors had the opportunity to take a tour of the study rooms and to admire the exhibition of drawings created within the framework of the republican children's fine arts competition „Generation of Equality”, which was organized by the National Institute of Justice and the „A. Șciusev” School of Fine Arts.

The reforms of the National Institute of Justice were possible thanks the support of the US Embassy in the Republic of Moldova and United Nations Development Programme, within projects „Strengthening technical capacities of the national institutions for the human rights protection and promotion” and „Support to Justice Sector Reform in Moldova – Reinforcing the National Capacities to Provide Efficient Skills-Based Training for Legal Professionals”.
