Today, 18 November 2025, the National Institute of Justice hosted the training seminar “Protection of the financial interests of the European Union and the role of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO)”, dedicated to judges and prosecutors. The event was organized by the NIJ and the Embassy of France in the Republic of Moldova. Significant support for the NIJ in delivering this training was provided by the European Public Prosecutor’s Office.
In her opening remarks, NIJ Director Ramona Strugariu highlighted the innovative character and relevance of the topic: “It is the first time we are conducting a training on an extremely important subject: the protection of the European Union’s financial interests, judicial cooperation, the role of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office – aspects that are already part of the daily reality of the Republic of Moldova and which, I hope, will become increasingly present in your day-to-day work.”
For her part, the Ambassador of France to the Republic of Moldova, H.E. Dominique Waag, reiterated France’s support for justice reform and emphasized the essential role of prosecutors and judges in this process: “The Republic of Moldova has chosen the European path, and your training on European institutions represents the cornerstone of a solid and necessary structure within the architecture of the judicial system.”
The seminar benefited from the expertise of Ms. Dana Manuela Ana, European Delegated Prosecutor within the EPPO, and Ms. Simona Pavel, French liaison magistrate for the Republic of Moldova, Romania, and Bulgaria.
The training sessions covered several topics, ranging from an overview of the mechanisms through which the European Union protects its financial interests and forms of cooperation with national authorities, to an in-depth analysis of the legal framework. The trainers detailed the provisions of the PIF Directive and the EPPO Regulation, explaining the structure and competences of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office.
During the interactive session, participants discussed methods of cross-border judicial cooperation and examined practical cases from EPPO’s activity.
The event is part of a project within France’s broader effort to support the Republic of Moldova in its process of accession to the European Union.
