Autumn school for judges specialized in examining cases of trafficking in human beings

On September 2-4, took place the autumn school "Strengthening the capacity of judges specialized in the examination of crimes of trafficking in human beings and trafficking in children".

At the beginning of the event, the trainees were greeted by Valentin Rosca, Head of the NIJ Continuous Training Section, Carolina Ciugureanu-Mihailuta, Member of the Superior Council of Magistracy, Radu Turcanu, the President of the Chisinau Court, Robert Alexander, Senior Law Enforcement Adviser, the US Embassy in the Republic of Moldova, and Lars Johan Lonnback, Head of the Mission of the International Organization for Migration in the Republic of Moldova.

The training activity aimed at familiarizing participants with the legal framework, the international and national practices in examining cases of trafficking in human beings, child trafficking, and related crimes, the specific aspects of the conduct of the judicial process, the profile of victims and traffickers, seizure and confiscation of products obtained as a result of these crimes, etc. At the same time, the beneficiaries of the training learned, from the first source, about the experience of judges in the Netherlands regarding the examination of such cases.

The participants were trained by the trainers Elena Cobzac, Judge at the Supreme Court of Justice, Kees Klomp, Judge specialized in cases of trafficking in human beings (Netherlands), Sergiu Russu, Chief Prosecutor in the Section for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings, the General Prosecutor's Office, and Ana Revenco, President of the International Center "La Strada", GRETA expert.

The event was organized by the National Institute of Justice in partnership with the International Organization for Migration, Mission to the Republic of Moldova, with the support of the US Embassy in Chisinau.
