The National Institute of Justice signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Academy of Justice of the Republic of Azerbaijan

A Memorandum of Cooperation was signed on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 by the Director of the National Institute of Justice of the Republic of Moldova, Diana Scobioala, and the Acting Rector of the Academy of Justice of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Elchin Khalafov.

The event took place during the visit of the NIJ Director in Baku, Azerbaijan, to participate in the international workshop on “Role of the Criminal Prosecution Authorities in Combating Human Trafficking”, organized by the UN Migration Agency, the International Organization for Migration, the Mission in Azerbaijan, and the Academy of Justice of the Republic of Azerbaijan, on April 3-4, 2019.

"Today we have established the basis of bilateral cooperation, which will certainly benefit both parties. We will study with great interest the experience of our colleagues in Azerbaijan and we are open to sharing the programs and methodologies we use in initial training, continuous training and distance learning", said Diana Scobioala.

The signing of this document aims to facilitate the cooperation between the judicial training institutions within the Eastern Partnership states - one of the strategic objectives of the National Institute of Justice. Thus, the exchange of knowledge and the sharing of good practices, as well as the strengthening the institutional capacity to provide training programs that meet European standards in the field will be achieved through a network of experience exchange for magistracy schools in the region.

The signed Memorandum establishes a general framework for cooperation between both institutions and creates premises for the promotion of quality training of judges, prosecutors, candidates to the positions of judge and prosecutor, as well as other persons working in the justice sector of the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Azerbaijan.
