The NIJ Director attended the international conference on “Role of the Criminal Prosecution Authorities in Combating Human Trafficking”

On April 3-4, 2019, the Director of the National Institute of Justice, Diana Scobioala,  participated in the international conference on “Role of the Criminal Prosecution Authorities in Combating Human Trafficking”, which was held in Baku, Azerbaijan.

At the event, the NIJ Director presented the institutional training experience in the field of human trafficking on three dimensions: initial training, continuous training and distance learning.

"The National Institute of Justice was given a distinct role in the National Strategy for Preventing and Combating Human Trafficking for the years 2018-2023. Being the only center of initial training of future judges and prosecutors, as well as continuous training of judges and prosecutors in office, we included the topic of the fight against human trafficking in initial, continuous and distance training programs, and for each type of training we have developed separate teaching methodologies, " mentioned the Director of the National Institute of Justice.

At the same time, Diana Scobioala highlighted the importance of strengthening relations of interinstitutional cooperation in the field of professional development of judges and prosecutors and sharing good practices on this segment.

Organized by the UN Migration Agency, the International Organization for Migration, the Mission in Azerbaijan, and the Academy of Justice of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the event brought together representatives of the judicial institutions from the host country, Belarus, Bulgaria, Germany, Republic of North Macedonia, Republic of Moldova, Romania, Sweden, Turkey, Ukraine, as well as experts from the European Court of Human Rights, Eurojust and Interpol.

The international conference aimed to exchange experiences and share best practices on the prosecution of cases of human trafficking, as well as to discuss the challenges that countries of origin, destination and transit are facing.
