The NIJ trainers are participating in the summer school dedicated to strengthening the capacities of the professionals in the field of the environmental justice

On August 14-16, 2019, the National Institute of Justice in partnership with the Public Association "EcoContact" is organizing the summer school with the generic “Strengthening the capacities of the professionals in the field of the environmental justice”. The event is taking place in Predeal, Romania, and it is bringing together trainers of the National Institute of Justice and representatives of the national law system.

The training sessions are facilitated by Diana Scobioala, PhD in law, Director of the NIJ, Iordanca-Rodica Iordanov, doctor in law, Executive Director of the Public Association "EcoContact", Boris Talpa, head of the Centre for Legal Information of the NIJ, detached judge, Valentin Rosca, doctor in law, NIJ trainer, Ghenadie Pirlii, head of the Section for investigations of frauds against the environment and public interests, General Prosecutor's Office, Anna Cazacu, legal adviser, and Ion Marin, expert in environmental programs at the "EcoContact" Public Association.

For three days, will be addressed several topics in the field of the environmental justice, in particular the delimitation of the ecological crimes from contraventions, the peculiarities of the beginning of the criminal process and of the prosecution in environmental cases, the methodological peculiarities regarding the investigation of the ecological crimes, the sampling procedures etc. At the same time, the trainers will focus on the jurisprudence of the International Court of Justice and the European Court of Human Rights, the provisions of the Aarhus Convention, as well as the analysis of the legislative changes in the field of environment protection, made in the context of the implementation of the Republic of Moldova - European Union Association Agreement.

The theoretical aspect of the summer school will alternate with the practical one: the participants will have the opportunity to analyze and interpret various case studies, including simulating a trial.

The event is organized thanks to the financial support of the Government of Sweden, obtained on the basis of the Cooperation Agreement of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) with the Public Association "EcoContact".
